Holly Mercer has always been a bit strange.

Born on the 29th of February 1936, she counted things and remembered what everyone else would forget.

On her sixteenth birthday, she entered the world of the coin trees. A parallel world of trees seeded by genuine acts of selfless giving. She saw the trees all over Hazelwood, fed by the community at a time when the town was barely surviving.

She also saw houses and families that the trees could not reach. They were cut off from the rest of the town by the Darkness.

Something had to be done.
